Buenos Aires has loads of places where you can go out and meet people.

If you want to mix with other English speakers then the Irish pubs are always a good bet. There's usually a mix of locals and some expats. Try Kilkenny in the microcentro (Marcelo T. de Alvear 399, near Plaza San Martín) or for a later start and downstairs nightclub area try the Shamrock (Rodriguez Peña, near Arenales).

For a good social area with lots of bars and often people chatting out on the street, try Plaza Serrano in Palermo. Spanish would definetly help here but there will also be some English speakers around. <em>Palermo Hollywood</em> is another area with loads of bars or if you want something upmarket then try the Cañitas area in Belgrano. Any of the big clubs like Pacha in the Costanera will also have a good mix of people (but don't get going untl very late).

Like in all big cities, the top trendy bars in Buenos Aires come and go but the places I've mentioned above are sure to have something of interest going on.

If you're really going to be living in Buenos Aires for some time then a great place to meet fellow expats is at the events held by Expat Connection. They currently hold a weekly or biweekly happy hour on thursday nights.
