Formosa, Argentina

Formosa province, one of the poorer areas of Argentina is located in the north of the country, sharing much of its border with Paraguay to the north and Chaco to the south. The name formosa was derived from an old Spanish word similar to hermosa, meaning beautiful.

Although the tourism industry is largely undeveloped in Formosa province there are several areas of attraction including:

• Río Pilcomayo National Park with its marshes and rainforest containing many species of birds and other animals like monkeys
• Formosa city, the capital of the province
• Misión Laishí, a beautiful mission constructed over 100 years ago.
