La Rioja province, situated in west-northwest Argentina is home to the impressive Talampaya National Park where cliffs tower over the dry Talampaya riverbed - a site where dinosaur fossils have been found. The park also holds ancient petroglyphs from the indigenous people of the Puerta del Cañón. La Rioja also contains other tourist attractions such as thermal springs, Termas de Santa Teresita, and numerous vineyards. One of Argentina's former presidents, Isabel Martínez de Perón was born in the province's capital La Rioja, and the controversial Carlos Menem also began his political career in the province.
