Salta province in the northwest of Argentina has a range of geography from the high plains and salty lakes of the Puna in the west, to the subtropical Yungas jungle area in El Rey National Park to the east, and valleys to the northeast where the capital city of Salta lies. Tourism is an important and growing industry in Salta province, starting with Salta city itself. The Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña de Salta contains three Inca mummies found frozen at the Llullaillaco volcano. Away from the city, the Valles Calchaquíes with their colourful red rock are also popular places to visit. Among the valleys is the winegrowing town of Cafayate which is a good base to explore the surrounding landscape.
