The province of San Juan is located in the west of Argentina, just above Mendoza. Like its neighbour, San Juan is also a major producer of wines. San Juan's geography changes from 6000m high mountain peaks in the west of the province to arid plains in the east. This contrasting geography gives rise to the Zonda wind which is dry and hot and combined with the red clay soil of the area has produced some interesting natural feautures such as the Pampa del Leoncito and the Valle de la Luna.
