Tucumán province is situated in the northwest of Argentina and is surrounded by Salta, Santiago del Estero and Catamarca. It is the smallest province of the country having around 22'000 km2 of area. Much of the province receives plenty of rain, a condition which has led to the province's nickname as the Jardín de la República (Garden of the Republic).

Sugarcane production is a major industry in Tucumán as around 60% of the country's output is produced in the province.
